WTMLogo Digital Security upgrade for LA LBThe Port of Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved $2.9 million for floating security barriers at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex.

The barriers are 5,000 feet each with a total coverage of 10,000 feet, and will be placed at strategic locations around the port during periods of heightened security.

The Small Craft Intrusion Barrier (SCIB) was invented, commercialized, and is manufactured in the U.S. by Wave Dispersion Technologies, a global leader in maritime security. The SCIB creates a floating line of demarcation and exclusion zone for maritime force protection, and was designed for the most adverse marine conditions including winds of 100 miles per hour.

Funding for the project comes from the Transportation Security Administration Port Security Grant Funds.

The Port of LA has received a total of $26.6 million in TSA Port Security Grants.
