State University 's School of Criminal Justice Overview Foundations of Homeland Security is one of three core courses in the new online Certificate in Homeland Security Studies program offered by the MSU School of Criminal Justice. This course provides both traditional students and current practitioners with a broad overview and assessment of the contemporary homeland security program. Who Should Enroll? Students or practitioners who have, or who aspire to achieve, a degree or career in some specialized field relating to homeland security will find value and demonstrate professional development by earning a certificate that represents a more general, comprehensive understanding and critical thinking regarding the complex subject of homeland security. Curriculum The curriculum and topics for this course were chosen based on the following question:
The topics and content were selected to provide an awareness and appreciation of the major themes that emanate from the homeland security spectrum. The curriculum is certainly influenced by the discipline of criminal justice, but it strives for an inter- or multidisciplinary approach through consideration of sociology and the behavioral sciences; emergency management; emergency medicine; public health; supply chain management; packaging; food safety and security; and others.
