U.S. Department of the Interior – U.S. Bureau of Reclamation – South Central California Area Office: In June 2004, the Bureau of Reclamation purchased a SCIB system to to protect the Friant Dam, located 15 miles north of downtown Fresno, California.
The Friant Dam provides critical infrastructure through:
- A 27-megawatt hydroelectric power generator operated by the Friant Power Authority, and
- Irrigation of the San Jaoquin Valley from Millerton Lake, a body of water created by the dam.
The WDT-provided SCIB protects the dam from small crafts seeking to damage this critical infrastructure.
